If you are reading this article then you have already set up the SKY API data integration and you are interested in understanding how to exclude courses from the data sync.

Why would you want to exclude courses from a data sync?

The way PTC Wizard filters teachers for parents is based off of class enrollment.

So if a student is enrolled in a course, then the enrollment data will connect the parent of that student with the teacher of the course.

Sometimes, students are enrolled in a course but you do not want the parents to be connected to the teacher of that course.   An example of this may be a study hall teacher.

How do I exclude a course?

In order to exclude a course from being considered during the enrollment sync, you need to click the button that says "Exclude Courses" and then check the checkbox next to the course name.

Why doesn't the exclude course button show up until I have selected at least one of the sections sync checkboxes?

Since courses are based on sections, we need to know which courses to exclude based on the school term.  You can only select a school term after you choose sections for academic or advisory.

What to do if you don't see any courses in the "exclude courses" pop up modal?

If you don't see any courses listed, then first run the sync for the sections only.  Once the sections have been downloaded once, they will provide the relevant course names for excluding courses.

Follow these steps:

1). Click the checkbox next to Sections (academic) and Sections (advisory).

2). Click the sync button.

3). Now do a normal sync for all the data points you want and the exclude sections should be loaded with course names.
